Cover Reveal, Synopsis & Book Trailer: “Welcome To Sugartown” by Carmen Jenner

Hello, my lovelies!

This book is absolutely FABULOUS and I cannot wait to give you my review when it releases next week. The book DID have an amazing cover before, but the author decided to change it. I still love the old one – which she knows – but the new one is, actually, better and speaks more to the reader about what the book is about.

So, here it is:

“Welcome To Sugartown”

Carmen Jenner

Welcome to Sugartown Cover

Release Date: November 3, 2013

Publisher: Independent

Genre: Contemporary New Adult

Cover Designer: Frankie Rose

Ana Belle never wanted anything more than to hang up her apron, jump on her Vespa and ride off into the sunset, leaving Sugartown in the dust.

Elijah Cade never wanted anything more than a hot meal, a side of hot arse and a soft place to lay his head at night where he could forget about his past.

But you know what they say about wanting: you always want what you can’t have.

Nineteen year-old virgin Ana is about to discover that’s not quite true because a six foot three, hotter than hell, tattooed, Aussie sex god just rode into town. He’s had a taste of her pie and he wants more– no really, Ana bakes pies for a living, get your mind out of the gutter.

She’d be willing to hand over everything tied up in a big red bow, there’s just one problem; Elijah has secrets dirtier than last week’s underwear. Secrets that won’t just break Ana’s heart, but put her life at risk, too. When those secrets come to light, their relationship is pushed to breaking point.

Add to that a psychotic nympho best friend, an overbearing father, a cuter than humanly possible kid brother, a wanton womanizing cousin, the ex from hell and more pies than you could poke a … err … stick … at.

And you thought small towns were boring.

Welcome to Sugartown.

–                     Content Warning. Intended for a mature 18+ audience. Contains explicit sex, violence, oodles of profanity and a crap-tonne of AWKWARD.

Welcome to Sugartown Jacket

Release Day Launch: “Running In Place” (Mending Hearts #2) by L. B. Simmons – Synopsis, Excerpt & Giveaway

Hi, ladies!

I have another very special treat for you today – the first book in the Mending Hearts Series, “Running On Empty”, is one of my favourite books and I am so happy to be a part of this release day launch. I will also be a part of the blog tour that is running from 24th October to 7th November.

Although this book is part of a series, each one can be read as a standalone novel.

Hosted by: Brandee’s Book Endings

Tatum O’Connell:

Some call me a party girl. People see me as happy, full of life, with absolutely no cares in the world. They see what I want them to see. But no one knows me – really knows me. Not even Noah Reese.  Mr. Perfect is always watching me, most likely judging every single imperfect thing I do. But, if Noah wants to keep an eye on me, that’s just fine. I definitely don’t mind. I just hope he doesn’t have any plans to save me from my new-found life of self-destruction because in order to save me, he will have to see me…

And I’m never going to let that happen.

Noah Reese:

Perfect. That’s me. That’s the only acceptable way to be, according to my father. Perfect grades. Perfect manners. Perfect athlete. Perfect SAT scores. Perfect college. And recently, I was accepted into the perfect med school. My future has already been mapped out for me and there’s nothing that can change that. Not even Tatum O’Connell. That girl is out of control, yet for some reason, I can’t seem to keep my distance from her. I watch her closely, hoping that one day she’ll let me in, but watching her lead her life down the dangerous path she’s on right now isn’t easy…

I have a feeling I’m about to find myself swept away by the hurricane that is Tatum O’Connell.

“Two fleeting souls,

Unknowingly tethered.

Too slowly drawn,

Impatient fate calls.

The jolting collide intertwines their lives

And splinters their walls.”

“Catalyst” – Noah Reese

Excerpt from “Running In Place”.

“You’re a worthless excuse for a daughter. I wish I never had you.”

Frantically, my eyes dart around the room for her. She’s here. I know it. I can smell the stench of alcohol in the air.  Whipping around, I search for any trace of her, my entire body shaking and the knot in my throat unbearable. Tears fill my eyes as they anxiously race around the kitchen, finally landing on the cabinet where she used to store her liquor.

Memories flood my mind, the immobilizing terror that I would feel every time she approached it.  The prayers I would send to no one in particular, just hoping that she wouldn’t open that fucking cabinet for just one night.  Prayers that fell on deaf ears.

Slowly I make my way to the white doors, crouching down in front of them.

“You killed him and I will make damn sure you spend the rest of your life paying for that. I’ll never again know true happiness because you fucking exist.”

Shaking my head to try to clear her voice from my mind, I set my trembling fingers on the silver knobs and yank the doors open. Nothing.

A sigh of relief escapes my lips as I close them.  Rising, I turn to take a step towards the sink when another memory strikes.

“Mama, don’t please.” I cry out loud as she approaches me with the scissors.

“I have to, Tatum.  Your beauty does not match the vile, revolting child that you really are on the inside. Everyone should see you for who you are.”  I try to run, but she grabs my long dark hair as I pass by her, swiping the blades so close to my neck that I can feel the cool metal against my skin. Laughing she chunks my tresses into the sink.  “You’re an ugly person, Tatum. Inside…and out, now.”

“God, Daddy.  Please help me,” I say out loud, lifting my shaking hands to my forehead, threading sections of hair through my fingers.  “Please, Daddy, I need you.” After a while, calmness spreads throughout my body.  I’m no longer shaking, but the voices are still there.

Turning the faucet on, I splash water on my face repeatedly, trying to drown out them out along with the memories.  After wiping my face dry with a dishtowel, I hear the crackling of gravel as Noah’s Jeep pulls up into the driveway.

Breathing in deeply, I try to regain my composure as I walk to the door, straightening my shirt and running my fingers through my hair before I reach for the knob.  Hearing steps in front of the house, I barely crack the door and poke my head out to make sure it’s really him.  With all the crazy shit going on in this house I can’t be too sure.  But, much to my relief, there he is, standing on my porch in his classic white t-shirt, work jeans and boots, his fist raised about to knock.

And just like that, the voices are gone and my head is clear.

I release a comforted breath and feel the corners of my mouth slightly lift at the sight of him.

“What are you smiling at?” Noah asks, seemingly nervous.  Opening the door wider, I gesture for him to enter my house of horrors. The sight of his disheveled hair makes me grin even more.

“Your hair, it’s nice to see it like that.  I don’t know why, but it makes me smile.” I clear my throat.  His nerves must be contagious, because suddenly I feel that hummingbird feeling in my chest.

With him now inside, I close the door and head towards the kitchen, checking over my shoulder to make sure he’s following me.  “Want something to eat?”

Once I see he’s fallen into step, I turn back around and round the corner, making sure to avoid looking at the sink. The memory still lingering on the hinges of my mind, I try to push it as far away as I can. “I don’t have much, but I did manage to make it to the store over the weekend.”

“No, I’m good, Thanks, though.” He shoves his hands in his pockets and rocks onto the balls of his feet.

Thinking about our last night together, I feel the frustration mounting within myself. I should kick my own ass for kissing him.  Everything seems so edgy between us now and I hate it.  Running my fingers through my hair, I twist it at the nape of my neck and bring it over my shoulder.

“Well, what’s up?  What couldn’t wait until tonight?”

His eyes widen. “Tonight?  What’s tonight?”

“I picked up Sadie’s shift.”

He grinds his teeth together as he leans against the wall, crossing his arms over his chest.  “I told you to take the entire week off, Tate. You don’t need to work right now. You need to concentrate on healing.”

I know.

“No, I don’t.  I’m sick and tired of being cooped up in this depressing house.  I need to get out, to stay busy.  I feel like I’m losing it, honestly.”  My hands are still trembling and I’m not sure if it’s the sudden anxiety from being around Noah or the fact that I’m losing my mind. His eyes break from mine and land on them as they continue to shake like a leaf.  Pressing himself off the wall, he takes a small, timid step towards me.

I want to tell him to stop.  To stay where he is.  To tell him to leave this house and forget about me.  That I could ruin his perfect life by just being near him.

But I don’t.

I let him continue taking those steps until he’s right in front of me and even breathe out a sigh of contentment when he wraps his arms around me, pulling me into his frame. The tears fall as he lightly traces my back with his fingers, and with each touch, my uneasiness lessens.  I know it’s selfish, but I would give anything to stay in this moment forever.

Circling my arms around his waist, I press my forehead against his chest and watch the droplets as they plummet from my face towards his boots, dark spots forming as they strike.  After a couple of seconds, I replace my forehead with my chin, daring to look into his muddy brown eyes, full of their usual intensity as he studies me, peering into my soul.  In them, I find complete solace and protection, and the sudden desire to share things with him that I swore I’d never share with another living person.

“I don’t know what’s wrong with me, Noah. I feel like I’m going fucking crazy. Ever since Friday, I can’t stop them.  The voices.  My mother’s leading their charge to my insanity.”   My throat closes almost completely shut.  “I hate this house. I hate being here, alone.  So many memories…” I trail off, my strength fading, no longer able to keep from bawling.

I close my eyes as the warm moisture cascades down my cheeks and runs down my neck.  Unwrapping his arms, he moves his hands to my face, wiping the tears away, but it’s useless.   They’re replaced instantly.

“Tate, open your eyes.  Look at me, baby.”  I keep them closed, not ready to face the wary expression in front of me.

“Let me in, Tate. Open your eyes.”  The heartache in his tone and the tremble of his voice prompts me to open them immediately.  As soon as our eyes catch, a breath hitches in my throat.  His eyes shining, he gently wraps his fingers around my shoulders, pressing his thumbs softly into my flesh as he speaks.

“You’re not alone.  I’m right here.” A slight smile of relief breaks through the tears on my face.

I watch his mouth tip up in response.  “Now, tell the voices to shut the fuck up because it’s my turn.”

Want an excerpt of “True Bliss” ? 😉 Silly question, right?

Having eaten our way through garlic bread, lasagna and a delicious baked cheesecake for dessert, both Mac and I are laid up in the living room. We’re recovering from our food comas, watching some crazy game show on television where people are training to become ninjas.

“I could never be a ninja. My big belly would get in the way,” Mac muses.

“I don’t want to be a ninja, although I’d be willing to date a ninja. Can you imagine the positions that he could get into? Oh my god! I just thought of one! The reverse saddle ninja.”

Mac sits up excitedly and faces me, bending one leg under the other. “No, wait. What about a ninja doing downward facing doggie style? They could probably hang upside down from the roof while fucking you. That would be awesome,” she says with a laugh.

“I know! Instead of the vibrating V, it would be the ninja nooner or the ninja nookie!” I say, struggling to talk though my laughter.

Mac looks at her phone briefly before putting it down and looking at me.

“Everything okay?” I ask, looking at her phone.

“Oh… yeah, great. Just checking the time. But right now, we need to talk about you.” Mac sits up and rests her hands on her stomach. I’m kind of envious of her right now, but I won’t admit that to her.

“Why’s that?” I say, intrigued. Definitely didn’t see the conversation shifting from ninja sex to me. Although, if I were honest, if I had ninja sex, I’d be a happy camper. Actually, sex of any kind would be acceptable right now. Anything other than the one handed dialing of the ol’ pink telephone. I should be buying my batteries in bulk with the frequent use my purple pearl vibrator has been getting this year.

Oh, and there is more! The first book in the series, “Temporary Bliss” is ON SALE! Yup, it’s true! For a limited time, you can get it for only $0.99 – that’s a real bargain, ladies.

And if you’re unsure about buying it, perhaps my 5 stars review will help – here’s my review.

Makenna Lewis cringes at any mention of the word commitment. She doesn’t want or need a relationship, but she does like sex (who doesn’t).

That explains Noah, Sean, and Zander, her three ‘friends with benefits’.

They know the score, they know they’re not the only one, and each of them provide her with a different physical need that she craves and enjoys.

Until a late night encounter with the delicious Daniel Winters turns her preconceived notion of no-commitment completely on its head.

Soon she finds herself feeling things she vowed never to feel again, and when Daniel pushes for more than she’s willing to give, she falters.

What do you do when something that you’ve known to be so wrong in the past feels so damn right?

If you’re Mac, you run and hide.

But is Daniel the type of man who takes no for an answer?

Release Day Launch: “Far Too Tempting” by Lauren Blakely – My Review & Giveaway

Hello, ladies!

A very heartfelt congratulations to Lauren Blakely on this very special day! I have been dying to show you my review of this incredibly romantic book! I hope you enjoy reading it. 😉

Jane Black has written the break-up album of the century, earning her a Grammy, a huge legion of new fans, and the pressure to repeat her success. Sure, the heartbreak from her husband’s unconventional abandonment might have been her inspiration, but it hasn’t done her any favors in the dating department. So when Matthew Harrigan, the toughest music journalist out there, asks for an interview, Jane agrees—as long as her personal life is completely off-limits.

British, gorgeous, and way too tempting, Matthew’s the first guy Jane’s been attracted to since her husband. As she spends more time with him and their relationship heats up, though, so does her writer’s block. How can the queen of the break-up pen the perfect follow-up when she’s seriously in love?

Lauren Blakely writes sexy contemporary romance novels with heat,
heart, and humor, and her books have appeared on the New York Times, USA Today, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and iBooks bestseller lists. Like the heroine in FAR TOO TEMPTING, she thinks life should be filled with family, laughter, and the kind of love that love songs promise. Lauren lives in California with her husband, children, and dogs. She loves hearing from readers! Her novels include Caught Up In Us, Pretending He’s Mine, Playing With Her Heart, Trophy Husband, and Far Too Tempting. On November 21, she’ll release the edgy new adult novel THE THRILL OF IT. She also writes for young adults under the name Daisy Whitney.

My Review

ARC received by the author in exchange for an honest review.

I must confess that this is my first Lauren Blakely book, but it is most definitely not my last!

This is pure, smiling-like-an-idiot, feel-good romance. It is the type of book that you will pick up on a cold evening, curl up on the sofa with a glass of wine with, and be lost to the world in for hours.

I feel that the blurb really says a lot about what the story is about so I will not go into more details as such as I am afraid of revealing too many spoilers.

I very much enjoyed getting to know Jane, our heroine, and I feel that she was very realistic. Right from the beginning, I felt a connection with her, I liked her “voice” – and I was completely thrown when I learned the reason to her failed marriage. No wonder she has a hard time trusting men and believing in her own sensuality.

“That is the secret of my success, the bittersweet reminder that you can write a breakup album and it can be great and you can win an award and be thrilled beyond your wildest dreams, but you’re only here because you are the biggest idiot in the world. Because you loved a man wildly, crazily, passionately. But oops! He was never really into you at all.”

I like that the book is about a female rock star for once, and the fact that Jane is also a mother and is determined – and succeed – to bring up her son, Ethan, in a “normal” environment is a character trait of hers that I really like. You are sucked into Jane’s world of music instantly, and you almost start biting your fingernails when you find out about her deadline. Now, I have no connections with the American music industry (or any other music industry, for that matter), but I do know that musicians/singers get lost in the crowd if they take too long with writing an album. So that part of the story felt very believable to me. I could feel her anxiety, her lack of self-esteem, her frustration…yes, the author is extremely good at conveying Jane’s emotions throughout the story.

Now, about Matthew – our VERY sexy, British (or English, as he refers to himself), playful hero…Well, another book boyfriend has seen the light of day! 😉 As a music critic, he can be somewhat harsh and, in theory, Jane’s enemy. Luckily, he loved her last album, Crushed, so much that he wants to see her succeed but the fact that he also admits to finding her very attractive complicates matters a bit. They try, however, to refrain from becoming romantically involved – but when you read this part of the book, you kind of already know that this couple will not be able to resist each other. 😉

“You really don’t know how much I want you? Because there aren’t enough adverbs to describe how much. Insanely, immensely, ridiculously. I could go on.” (Matthew)

Some people say that in order to heal a broken heart, you need to fall in love again. Which is exactly what happens when Jane lets herself trust Matthew more and more. I find their romance to be so sweet, yet scorching hot, and you cannot stop smiling while reading! One of the things I absolutely love is their email exchanges – they are witty, flirty and believable. When I think about it, much of the entire book is written that way, and I really like that in a romance novel.Let us not forget the sex scenes…wow! Very hot, but tastefully written – definitely not over the top. And some of these scenes were even very funny:

“Breasts are literally one of the best inventions ever. Seriously. I can’t even imagine a world without them. I would die,” he says in mock sadness, and I laugh more, as he lays his head between my breasts. “Soft, like pillows. They’re such divine creations. God bless breats.”

Now, imagine a scorching hot guy saying that with the British accent…Well, need I say more? And that is exactly what I love the most about Matthew: his humour and the way he can make Jane laugh but feel sexy and comfortable at the same time. You can really feel this couple’s chemistry, and that, in my opinion, shows how talented this author is.

As I started out by saying in my review: this book makes you smile A LOT, it makes you sigh happily, and it is a perfect book to read on a cold night. I had a VERY hard time putting the book down. The story is engaging, the writing is flawless, and all romance lovers will, in my opinion, be fools if they do not read it. Miss Blakely, looking forward to reading your other books! 🙂

Blog Tour: “Willing Captive” by Belle Aurora – My Review, Excerpt & Giveaway!

WC Banner

Genre: New Adult

Release Date: September 26, 2013

Hosted by: Love Between the Sheets

Hello, my lovelies!

It is FINALLY my turn on this sassy lady’s blog tour! Yay! I have been dying to share my review with you all since I read the book a couple of weeks ago. One of my absolute favourite books now.

Read on to get to my review and the GIVEAWAY Belle has decided to throw during the tour.

Delilah “Lily” Flynn is used to her drab existence. Lily’s been living it for twenty two years.
Her boring life is suddenly turned on its head when she’s rudely kidnapped from her bedroom.
Or so she thinks.

Nox Taylor is far too high up in his field to be assigned a babysitting job.
There’s nothing more he wants than to complete his mission so he can be rid of the smartass tomboy, Lily.

Day after day, Nox watches Lily and her strange ways. She’s unlike any woman he’s ever met.
Getting close to the girl is purely for her own protection…right?

Lily never imagined she’d make her first real friends in captivity.
What lengths would she go through to keep them?

(Author note: This is NOT a dark romance.)

Belle Aurora is twentysix years old and was born in the land down under.
At an early age she fell in love with reading. Boredom one summer had her scouring the bookshelves at home. She stumbled across Sandra Brown’s Breath of Scandal and fell in love with romance.
Having been brought up in a loud and boisterous family of Croatian descent, she developed a natural love for dramatics and humor. Only some years ago had she discovered a new love.

Humorous romance novels.

Kristen Ashley and R.L. Mathewson had opened a brand new world where she could lose herself yet feel safe and at home in their stories.

Belle has been known to become a screeching banshee while anxiously awaiting their newest titles.
Belle never thought she would write. It had never interested her until recently. Friend-Zoned began to form and in February this year Belle typed the words Chapter One.

And she fell in love.

With words.

With writing.

With a creative imagination she never knew she harbored.

My Review

ARC received by the author in exchange for an honest review

Although I usually read romance novels that are more intense and dark in nature, I love a romance novel filled with fun moments as well. In my opinion, it is only a handful of authors who truly know how to balance their romance with humour – it can very easily become too much – and Belle Aurora excels at this every single time! “Willing Captive” is, without a doubt, my favourite book of hers. It has it all: drama, intensity, heartbreak…well, everything I love in a book, anyway. But I am getting ahead of myself here.

The story follows Delilah (Lily) Flynn, a very sheltered young woman, who longs for the kind of adventure and romance she usually only reads about in books – she feels bored out of her mind with her job at her father’s company, “Flynn Logistics”, but she has yet to find the courage to “leave the nest”, so to speak. Lily spends her nights in her room, reading smutty (*wink*)) books because her dad does not allow her to go out. Although she feels uncomfortable in her extravagant home, she loves her room:

“In this room, I can be who I want to be. No pressure. No expectations. I can do as I please. And I like it like that.”

Needless to say, this IS a boring way of life so it is no wonder she longs to spread her wings, and Lily’s sister, Terah, is desperate for her to rebel a bit as well.

Now, even though Lily craves freedom and excitement in her life, she does not exactly like it when all hell breaks loose one night: she finds herself kidnapped – or so she thinks – and is thrown into the hands of an extremely annoying commando called Nox. It turns out that Lily’s father has hired Nox and his “band of brothers” to protect the entire family until Nox finds out who it is that is out to get them, and especially Lily seems to be the target.

Nox is extremely bad-ass and not exactly forthcoming when it comes to giving Lily information and naturally, that causes them to butt heads a lot – actually, they downright dislike each other vehemently – but, eventually, over time, love blossoms between them.

I absolutely ADORE Lily: she is quirky, strong and passionate. Her inner monologues are hilarious, and she can be funny one moment and serious the next. I did not find her annoying or frustrating at any point while reading – I was actually very sad when the book ended – and I love how her feelings for Nox develop: not simply from one day to the next, but slowly, over several weeks, giving the reader plenty of time to get to know both of them.

Now, Nox…well, he can be a complete arsehole, but also incredibly sweet. When we first meet him, he shows only his badass side, and he is none too happy about being, in his mind, a babysitter to Lily. He gets frustrated, to put it mildly, with her and her questions and comes close to breaking point many times:

“He leans closer to me and whispers: “Don’t push me, little girl. You don’t wanna see my bad side.” I blink a second before my eyes widen and I lean back from him as I whisper hiss, “THIS is your good side?”

After a misunderstanding that only makes Lily’s situation worse, emotionally, Lily and Nox start to communicate better and begin to get to know each other.  Trusting the other proves to be difficult at first, but they begin to see each other in a different light eventually.

“You are not going to die.” I reply breathily, “What makes you so sure?”

His lip tilts at the corner as he says, “There’s a reason I’m cocky, princess.” Then he smiles. Not a smirk or a grin. A gleaming teeth, megawatt smile.

And it’s nice.Slightly crooked, it softens his normally hard face. I could get used to this Nox.”

If you like hot, alpha, commando heroes, Nox will satisfy you to no end. But as I wrote earlier, he can also be incredibly sweet:

“You remember what you said this morning? About it being totally stupid to fall in love with me?”

At that, my eyes open. He adds quietly, “Then you should start calling me a fuckin’ moron.”

I mean, seriously: SWOON!

I do not want to say too much more about what happens next – you will laugh, cry, swoon, bite your nails, and tear your hair out while reading this book. Also, readers who, like me, really love books with alternate POV’s will get their wish fulfilled: the voice of Nox is truly amazing.

For me, the last 35% of the book is what makes this a 5 stars read, and obviously I will not go into further details. Let me just say that this is the point when Lily shows her true strength, where she is forced to really grow up.

As usual, Belle Aurora does not disappoint when it comes to writing the VERY sexy, intimate scenes between her characters, and Lily and Nox really complement each other. There is simply wonderful chemistry between them. You will want your significant other to be close by after having read some of these hot scenes – and let that be my final note of this review. 😉 Except for this: read the book! You will not regret it! 🙂

Want to read an excerpt of the book? Of course you do! 😉 Enjoy!

Walking over to the door, I close it, taking my time so as to not make a sound. Once it’s shut, I open the dresser drawers,
take out a pair of simple white underwear and a matching plain bra, remove the tags, then step into the panties.

As soon as I reach down to pull the panties up my legs, the door swings open. I see a scowling Nox, but when he sees the position I’m in, his scowl disappears
to be replaced with a slightly gaping mouth.

I’m mortified. But the look on his face tells me he’s possibly just as mortified. Maybe more. And I certainly got the results of my experiment.
Forcing down my flush to no avail, I clear my throat and check my watch. Nodding with pursed lips, I say clinically, “Forty seconds, give or take. Not bad, Nox.”

And now for the GIVEAWAY!

Cover Reveal, Synopsis & Giveaway: “The Thrill Of It” by Lauren Blakely

The Thrill of It Cover

Expected Release Date

21 November

A new adult story of Love. Sex. Addiction. Blackmail. And Power…

Some say love can be an addiction. Others say it’s the thing that makes life worth living. Let me tell you everything I know about love…Love isn’t patient, love isn’t kind. Love is a game, a chase. A thrill. Love is wild and war-like, and every man and woman must fight for themselves. At least that’s how it was for me. A high-priced virgin call girl by the time I started college, I was addicted to love and to sex. Even though I’ve never had either. I controlled love, played it, and held the world in the palm of my hands. Then I fell down from those highs, and I’m being blackmailed for all my mistakes, forced to keep secrets from everyone, except the only guy I don’t regret.

With all the other women, I knew what they were. They were temporary. They were pills, they were bottles, they took away all the pain, and numbed the awful memories that wore down my ragged, wasted heart. Until I met Harley. She’s the only girl I ever missed when she walked away. But now she’s back in my life, every day, and there are no guarantees for us, especially since I don’t know how to tell her my secrets. What happened to my family. All I know is she’s the closest I’ve ever come to something real, and I want to feel every second of it.

How can you love with no regrets when regret is all you know?
